West Palm Beach, Fla.– Ellen Andel, Executive Director of the Leslie L. Alexander Foundation, has joined the Palm Health Foundation Board of Trustees. In her new role, Andel will advance the charitable mission of the foundation to inspire and fund solutions for better health in Palm Beach County through community collaboration. She will work with the foundation’s trustees to oversee asset management, grant-making and fund development.
“Ellen has the ideal combination of business skills, civic leadership and community experience to benefit the foundation,” said Patrick McNamara, president and CEO of Palm Health Foundation. “She will be a great asset to our board and staff as we continue to grow and impact community health and health equity in Palm Beach County.”
In her current role at the Leslie L. Alexander Foundation, a private foundation in Delray Beach, FL, Andel oversees funding and programs to support socioeconomically disadvantaged persons and communities, education, and animal welfare. In her earlier career, Andel lived in Europe and travelled extensively. A Palm Beach County native, she eventually returned to her roots, serving the Town of Juno Beach and its citizens for eight years as Councilmember and Vice Mayor. In recognition of her achievements, she was nominated for the Women in Leadership Award from the Executive Women of the Palm Beaches in 2017.
Andel’s affinity for serving her community started early. She earned a degree in Civil Engineering from Princeton University and began her career with the City of New York renovating abandoned buildings in the South Bronx and Harlem to provide affordable housing.
As a dedicated volunteer leader, Andel currently serves as the Regional Chairperson of the Princeton Alumni Schools Committee. She has served on the boards of Suncoast High School Foundation, All Saints Catholic School, and Jupiter-Tequesta Athletic Association. An avid runner, Andel has competed in numerous triathlons and road races, and won a gold medal in the 60m hurdles at the 2012 USA Masters Track Championships
