In November of last year, the foundation received a grant from Florida Blue Foundation enabling us to continue supporting Mental Health First Aid trainings in our community. Mental Health First Aid is a program that teaches members of the public how to identify and help a person who is experiencing a mental health problem or is in a mental health crisis.
With this grant, the foundation plans to provide free Mental Health First Aid training for 2,000 African-American and Hispanic adults, uninsured or underserved, living below the poverty level and residing in the foundation’s Healthier Together zip codes.
In order to meet this lofty goal, the community needs more instructors to facilitate trainings. In March, Palm Health Foundation, in partnership with Alpert Jewish Family & Children’s Services, provided an instructor training which graduated 16 Mental Health First Aid instructors who are now ready to serve the community with this life-saving program.
