Grantee Spotlight: Volunteer Nurse Corps

Palm Health Foundation established the Volunteer Nurse Corps (VNC) in 2016, a program administered by the School of Nursing at Palm Beach Atlantic University, which utilizes volunteer nurses to provide health information, education and care to vulnerable populations in Palm Beach County.

Now in 2019, the VNC is still going strong in our community. This month, the VNC provided health screening services to 250 Bank of America employees who were attending an annual team building event at Eau Palm Beach Resort in Manalapan, Florida. The Bank of America staffers in attendance included local employees as well as international employees, from places as far away as London and Hong Kong.

Led by the Volunteer Nurse Corps Executive Director, Dr. Fontaine Timmer, the VNC participated in a mini health fair, where nurses provided blood pressure screenings, handed out health materials and answered basic health questions. Several of the attendees expressed interest in the concept of a Volunteer Nurse Corps and inquired if the Palm Beach County group could help replicate the program in their hometowns.

Just one month after National Nurses Week, this event was a great example of how our Palm Beach County nurses continue to go above and beyond to make our community – and others – a healthier place to live.
